Tehran hosts meeting of working group on convention on legal status of Caspian Sea

Today, the 27th meeting of foreign ministers and special representatives of presidents of the 5 Caspian countries on the Caspian issues has started in Tehran. Iranian FM Manouchehr Mottaki opened the meeting.

Mottaki informed that Caspian Sea is peaceful and safe: “Being of peace and safety in this Sea means that Caspian countries are out of danger. Regulation of the legal status of the Caspian Sea assumes great importance from economic, political and security standpoint”.

Iranian diplomat said that official Tehran based on the agreements signed between Iran and Soviet Union in 1921-1940, in determining of the legal status of the Caspian Sea.

Note that, different issues on the summit of presidents of the countries to be held on November 18, in Baku will be discussed at the 27th meeting of foreign ministers and special representatives of presidents of the 5 Caspian countries on the Caspian issues. Azerbaijan is represented by Deputy FM Khalaf Khalafov.
