Hospital patients evacuated due to under flooding in Ankara

18 October 2010 [15:33] - TODAY.AZ
A half of the patients in the intensive care unit of the Ataturk State Hospital in Ankara was transferred to the other multiple hospitals on Saturday, Anadolu agency reported. The evacuation of seriously ill patients was a necessary measure, as the basement with the generators that provide the hospital with electricity, was flooded due to torrential rains.

"About 19 of 38 seriously ill patients in the resuscitation and intensive care units were taken to other hospitals of the city. These measures were taken because the water level increased in the basement and a room with electric generators and the drainage system was out of order," Professor Metin Dogan, chief doctor of the hospital, said.

He said that the drainage system was restored after using special equipment. The situation is under control. There is no threat for patients. Torrential rains began in Turkey last Thursday. Many houses in different administrative districts and towns were flooded, Cihan agency said.

Bursa and Izmir are among the worst affected cities. According to the information, the flood killed one person. The number of accidents increased in the areas affected by the disaster.
