The General Assembly of the Pacific Conference of Churches has expressed support for New Caledonia's struggle for independence from France, Azernews reports, citing the outcome documents of the 12th General Assembly.
The documents reflect a call to France to cleanse the region of nuclear weapons, as well as weapons of mass destruction and military bases. The General Assembly also calls on official Paris to take responsibility for the degradation of the oceans from the transport of nuclear weapons.
"Support French Polynesia and New Caledonia in the sacred struggle for self-determination. We call for an end to the militarisation of these territories. At the same time, we call on current and former colonial powers to undertake regional ratification of nuclear weapons," the documents said.
