
The European Union congratulates Giorgi Margvelashvili with a victory in the presidential election in Georgia, said Michael Mann, spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
"EU congratulates President-elect Giorgi Margvelashvili," Mann told journalists in Brussels on Tuesday.
On behalf of the EU he expressed satisfaction with organization and conduct of the elections and noted improvement in functioning of democratic institutions in Georgia.
"The overall picture is encouraging," he stressed.
The presidential elections were held in Georgia on October 27.
Candidate of the ruling coalition "Georgin Dream" Giorgi Margvelashvili won the elections gaining 62.11 percent of votes.
The inauguration of the elected president will take place on November 17.
