AzernewsA Georgian parliamentary delegation met with U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, Congressman Christopher Smith and Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Robert Aderholt in Istanbul on August 12.
The Georgian delegation included Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Davit Usupashvili, Deputy Speaker Zurab Abashidze, as well as Chairman of the Committee for European Integration Victor Dolidze and Member of Parliament and Deputy Speaker of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Gigi Tsereteli.
During the meeting Usupashvili briefed the U.S. delegation with the ongoing political processes in Georgia and ongoing reforms. He emphasized the need to restore the OSCE observation mission in Georgia and spoke about Russia's actions in the recent period.
The talks also mulled the Vilnius Summit. Georgia expects initialing of the association agreement with the EU at the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Vilnius on November 28-29. The Georgian government announced that it will make the best of efforts to achieve certain results.
In turn, members of the U.S. delegation openly expressed their full support to Georgia, as well as a willingness to support the process of democratic development of the country. Usupashvili invited Senator Roger Wicker to Georgia with an official visit.
