GB royal family joyfully welcomes newborn boy

Kate, the duchess of Cambridge, has given birth to a boy, Kensington Palace said late Monday, dpa reported.

Kate and her newborn son "are both doing well" and will remain in hospital overnight, Kensington Palace said late Monday.

The third-in-line to the British throne weighed 8 pounds and 6 ounces (3.769 kilograms) and was delivered at 4:24 pm (1524 GMT), the palace said, noting that the duchess' husband, Prince William, was present for the birth.

Queen Elizabeth II and other senior members of the royal family had been informed and were "delighted" with the news, the palace said.
