Maritime war game kicks off in Iran

Iran's navy force is launching a war game in Oman Sea and India Ocean today, IRNA News Agency reported on Friday.

The war game will last six days.

As Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said, "Velayat 91" military drills will cover a one million km square area in free waters.

"Testing of defense missile systems, submarines and war ships is scheduled during the war game," he said.

Sayyari also before noted that in the future Iran plans to send its naval forces to Atlantic ocean, in an attempt to demonstrate the power and capabilities of Iranian navy.

He said Iran's naval forces will expand their international presence to safeguard the Islamic Republic's interests and rights.

In December, 2011 Iran's Navy launched previous massive "Velayat 90" naval military drills.
