02 October 2012 [19:02] - TODAY.AZ
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has thanked the people who actively participated in yesterday's parliamentary elections.

"Although the election totals haven't been completely counted yet, the elections were held democratically, as we promised," the president noted on Monday evening following the declaration of a number of exit polls.

In his speech Georgian president noted that Georgian Dream opposition party has won the proportional elections, United National Movement party the majority elections.

"The opposition has won the proportional elections in Tbilisi, and UNM has won them in the regions, but we are not going to divide the country, we are going to cooperate," he stated.

Saakashvili stressed that although the pre-election campaign was stressful, even 'dirty' at times, everything has to be forgotten. "We are ready for cooperation and work with new parliament," he noted.

Saakashvili said the transfer of power to the new parliament will occur normally.
