FM comments on Iran's NAM chairmanship opportunities

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Iran's hosting the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit and its chairmanship over the organization is a good opportunity for establishing justice and better conditions within the present international system, IRNA reported.

Talking to IRNA on Saturday, he said the period of Iran's presidency on the NAM is also a chance for further activating the big organization given the fact that NAM has the potential to influence many political, regional and international developments.

Noting that NAM has 118 members, Mehmanparast said the organization has always showed great support for and cooperation with Iran in nuclear issues and has defended Iran's inalienable right to pursue nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Reacting to some criticism over invitations extended to certain heads of states for the NAM summit in Tehran, he said international gatherings follow certain protocols, urging the host country to invite all member states so Iran could never decline from inviting a number of countries.

He also noted that almost all invitations have already submitted to heads of the NAM member states.
