Nuclear talks based on fake optimism

The talks between Iran and "5+1" group are based on fake optimism, Iran's Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said in an interview to Jomhouri Eslami newspaper.

Rafsanjani expressed doubts that the ongoing talks regarding Islamic Republic's nuclear program will bring any success.

"Although it has been said that the talks were positive, after the Baghdad talks it was obviously anything but that," Rafsanjani said.

He added that while not having enough information to make assessments, it is clear that Western states are using the "boycott" tactic, trying to soften Iran by using sanctions against it.

"Iran has proven that this kind of strategy will not work," Iran's ex-president noted.

On May 23 Iran and the "5+1" group held talks in Baghdad, regarding Islamic Republic's nuclear program.

Before Baghdad, the talks between Iran and the six members of the P5+1 group were held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 14. Both sides hailed the discussions as constructive.

The outcome of the talks in Baghdad was that another round of talks was agreed upon to take place in Moscow on June 18 and 19.
