Economic ties with Iran do not contradict Georgian policy toward West

23 April 2012 [19:14] - TODAY.AZ
The deepening of economic ties with Iran does not contradict the policy of Georgia towards the West, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said at a traditional briefing on Monday.

"Georgia is a sovereign state and decides itself in what form and with whom to cooperate. Georgia also openly declares that it wants to establish close relations with economically major countries. Tourism potential coming from Iran is daily growing. Not surprisingly, our interests include establishment of economic relations with all major countries in the region," she said.

Kalandadze also noted that this desire in any case does not mean that the country falls out of a common scheme or this in a form contradicts to the policy of Georgia towards the West.

"These ties are completely open and transparent and all of our friends are informed about them," the deputy minister said.
