Iran announces first election results

Names of some politicians, who have won the parliamentary elections have been announced, Fars news reported. Some of the politicians have already been parliamentary members, and were re-elected, according to early statistics. Few of the elected represented two cities instead of one.

As of 10.30 o'clock Friday, the following politicians have won the elections, and will therefore reside in Islamic Republic's Majlis (parliament). The politicians listed below were re-elected, or elected for the third straight time.

Kazem Jalali
Ali Larijani
Mohammadrza Ashtiani, elected for 3rd time
Alaeddin Boroujedi
Qulamhuseyn Subhaniniya
Hadi Qavvami
Izzetullah Yusifyan Molla, elected for 3rd time
Mahammadcavad Nazari Mehr
Shahbaz Hesanpur
Huseyn Amiri

The Iranian parliament consists of 290 members, 60 of which have already been selected. Ten of those selected candidates were elected in the parliament before. The rest of the politicians were elected for the first time.

Prior to the elections, 33 parliamentarians were rejected by Iran's Guardian Council for participation in the upcoming voting. The rest 250 plus parliamentarians were approved for re-election.

The 9th parliamentary elections in Iran started yesterday at 8 am Friday and was supposed to finish at 6 pm, but voting hours were extended four times - once for two hours, and three times for one hour.

Over 3,400 candidates competed in the parliamentary elections. The elections took place at 46,062 polling stations. At 14,307 polling stations the election was held by using the mobile ballot boxes.

The election results may be made public in 48 - 72 hours after the election day.
