Nicolas Sarkozy to take new steps

President of France Nicolas Sarkozy intends to prepare a new bill criminalizing the denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide", if the country's Constitutional Council repeals a law adopted by the Senate, CNN Turk reports with reference to the French media outlets.

According to the French media outlets, Sarkozy criticized some ministers who oppose the law, and expressed dissatisfaction with MPs' address to the Constitutional Council to repeal the law on "genocide."

On Jan.31, the French Senators collected required number of signatures to submit to the Constitutional Council to demand repeal of the law criminalizing the denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide".

After an eight-hour debate, the French senate adopted the bill. Some 127 senators voted in favor, while 86 senators voted against it on Jan. 23.
