Iran, Russia to strengthen fight against drugs

23 January 2012 [13:03] - TODAY.AZ
Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar reported that two powerful neighbors, Iran and Russia, would extend cooperation in drugs campaign, IRNA reported.

Talking to IRNA and the IRIB, Najjar said Sunday in Moscow that Iran and Russia are two countries lying on main routes for drugs transit to Europe. This means that Iran is at the beginning of the Afghanistan-Balkans-Europe route, while Russia is at the beginning of Afghanistan-Central Asia-Europe route, he added.

The Minister said being in similar status in terms of drugs smuggling necessitates Iran and Russia's having more extensive cooperation to launch more effective fighting against the devastating substance.

"Today, all the world people do know that Iran has taken many measures for drugs campaign and dear Iranian nation has paid hefty financial and human cost in the way," said Najjar. To this end, Iran and Russian will hold talks for more effective drugs campaign cooperation.
