Turkey’s energy demand ups

09 January 2012 [20:32] - TODAY.AZ
In parallel with Turkey's economic growth, the country's need for energy resources is growing, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in his statement issued in connection with an energy efficiency week taking place in Turkey, TRT Haber TV channel reports on Monday.

"The significance of energy, which is a basic condition for economic development, grows day by day," Erdogan said. According to Erdogan, Turkey should minimize external energy dependence and develop technology to create renewable energy sources.

"In Turkey, only 20 percent in electricity generation account for renewable energy sources. Until 2023, renewable energy should hit 30 percent of total electricity generation," Erdogan said. He also stressed that Turkey has rich oil or natural gas fields, therefore, the country should develop alternative energy sources.
