Azerbaijan Central Election Commission receives defamatory appeals

13 November 2010 [19:08] - TODAY.AZ
The Central Election Commission (CEC) has received appeals of defamatory nature, Natig Mammadov, secretary of the commission, said.
He said that some of these appeals contain the requirements to cancel the election results.

"There were such cases that could be a reason to cancel the election results. However, the information was false. For example, it was stated that candidate Fuad Muradov, who nominated his candidacy in the 21th constituency, committed criminal acts. But Muradov was a candidate and won in the 29th Sabail constituency, " Mammadov said.

Azer Tagiyev, a member of the CEC, said that these appeals envisage criminal cases. "The Article 296 of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code has a point about false information. In particular, it was indicated about providing false information in connection with committing a crime. We must inform the prosecution bodies about those who made these appeals to launch investigation," Tagiyev said.
