Azerbaijani speaker: Azerbaijani President has left for disaster area

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visits the regions damaged by the flood of Kura River and gives appropriate orders to eliminate consequences of disaster, Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Oqtay Asadov said.

Asadov said that all agencies involved in eliminating the consequences of the disaster work around the clock without break.

Floods in 40 Azerbaijani regions have been recently registered. About 20,000 houses were flooded, more than 300 destroyed, 2,000 were in emergency condition, 50,000 hectares of cultivated land were under water as a result of the disaster.

Water level decreased in Kura river up to one meter in some areas, Minister for Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov told media.

"We have already overcome the critical situation. Operations, to restore the dams to be completed within two or three days, are being conducted," he said. Necessary work is being conducted to ensure normal living conditions of the evacuated population, Heydarov said.
