Azerbaijani Community in Nagorno-Karabakh: We can negotiate with the Armenian Community in Karabakh

08 May 2010 [11:43] - TODAY.AZ
"We all want to return to Shusha and we believe the Azerbaijani President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev's efforts will make this real," Azerbaijani Community in Nagorno-Karabakh Chief Bayram Safarov said.

"Then, Azerbaijan was not ready for the fight. Armenians used this fact and occupied the city with the help of Russia's 366th Division," he said.

Shusha is located in Nagorno-Karabakh, and was occupied by Armenia May 8, 1992. Hundreds of civilians were killed, roughly 60 civilians were taken hostage and hundreds went missing. Women and children were among the dead, wounded and hostages. Approximately 22,000 people became refugees. There are 248 historical monuments, eight museums, an art gallery, a mausoleum, eight music schools and dozens of cultural objects in the occupied territory.

Safarov said the talks to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are underway.

"If necessary, we can negotiate with the Armenian Community in Nagorno-Karabakh," he added.
