In the appointment of former co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group Matthew Bryza as an ambassador in Baku, the U.S. sees the path of normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations. The main objective of Matthew Bryza is to achieve a shift in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which will ensure the opening of borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
According to Hurriyet, by appointing Bryza as an ambassador to Azerbaijan, the White House has
taken an important step towards the enhancement of "quiet diplomacy"
between Turkey and Armenia, with subsequent involvement of Azerbaijan
in the process. The Obama administration has already begun the approval process of Bryza for this post. Reportedly, Bryza even actively started to learn Azerbaijani.
Hurriyet believes that with the appointment of Bryza as an ambassador to Baku, the diplomatic contacts between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict will be intensified. Bryza supports the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.
The newspaper notes that the task of Bryza is to eliminate the problems in the issue of normalizing Turkish-Armenian relations by achieving a shift in the process of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. It is expected that the candidacy of Matthew Bryza will soon be offered for discussion of the American Senate.
