Azerbaijani MP: Public and politicians of Azerbaijan are on the verge of losing faith in U.S. President

20 April 2010 [14:34] - TODAY.AZ
"We can say that today public and politicians of Azerbaijan are on the verge of losing faith in U.S. President Barack Obama’s compliance with strategic lines of cooperation with Azerbaijan,” member of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (Parliament) Malahat Hasanova said.

"This conclusion is due to the fact that President of Armenia, an occupier country in the South Caucasus, was invited to the recent nuclear security summit in Washington. This is already quite remarkable fact,” she said.

“Of course, Turkey is of great importance for the United States as a faithful NATO member. We would like to believe that Barack Obama will not yield to the influence of the Armenian lobby and the Armenian Diaspora and will not utter the far-fetched phrase "Armenian genocide" on April 24. If he says this, forgetting about fundamental interests of his country, it will become clear for all that the U.S. gives up its reputation as a peacemaker, supporter of democracy and equality throughout the world.”

“Azerbaijan has long been closely cooperating with NATO. Our troops are now defending peace side by side with Americans in Afghanistan and Iraq. But the current Washington administration for some reason displays an unfair attitude towards Azerbaijan and Turkey while Azerbaijan, unlike Armenia, is a strategic partner of the United States," the Milli Majlis deputy said.

"If on April 24, Barack Obama forgets about the recent tragedy in Khojaly and four UN Security Council resolutions unfulfilled by Armenia but refers to the dark, unexplored chapter in the history of 1915 meeting request of the Armenian lobby, we will see that all human values that the U.S. president advocates are nothing but senseless declarative statements. Therefore it is very hard to believe that on April 24 Obama will not say this word,” Hasanova added.
