Azerbaijani Presidential Administration: No anti-American campaign in Azerbaijan

16 December 2009 [14:30] - TODAY.AZ
Senior official of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration regrets that some media outlets describe protest of Azerbaijani people, Parliament, Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh against the U.S.Congress decision to provide financial assistance to the Nagorno-Karabakh separatists as anti-American campaign.

"Azerbaijan does not conduct any anti-American campaign," Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Public and Political Department Head Ali Hasanov told media on Dec. 16.

Hasanov said that Azerbaijan as the U.S strategic is committed to ally relations and will continue to do so.

"Of course, we are not against providing assistance to suffering people of Nagorno-Karabakh who need help. But this is precisely the Azerbaijani community who needs this help. They have been evicted from their homes and were forced to live in camps for long years. We urge the U.S. to take this into consideration. Willingly or unwillingly, this assistance promotes ethnic separatism in Nagorno-Karabakh and affects the resolution of the conflict. Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Presidential Administration and Parliament are also voicing their protest to the U.S. administration," Hasanov added.

Hasanov said that the U.S. is a country that pursues worldwide policy and its decisions cannot be based on occasional proposals of the congressmen.
