Observers of CoE Congress of Local and Regional Authorities meet with Chairman of Azerbaijani Central Election Commission head

Representatives of the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities met with Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov on Dec. 7.

Head of the delegation Ms. Gaye Doganoglu took interest in CEC's work in run-up to the municipal elections in Azerbaijan to be held on Dec. 23, CEC press office said.

Panahov told the European representatives that 32,000 candidates from 18 political parties were registered for the elections.

He said CEC conducted education program and organized information sessions and trainings for the local election officials.

The European delegation expressed confidence in the democratic conduct of the elections.

The Council of Europe and Azerbaijani election officials exchanged opinion about the prospects of cooperation between them.
