
A total of 31,861 candidates will participate in the municipal elections in Azerbaijan to be held on Dec. 23, official website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) said.
They have been nominated for 15,682 seats in 1718 municipalities. About 16,020 of the candidates have higher education, 166 incomplete higher education, 8,938 have completed secondary education, 6,737 vocational schools. As many as 6,222 women will participate in the elections.
A total of 14,647 have put forward their candidacies independently and 147 have been nominated by the initiative groups.
About 15,388 have been nominated by the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, 120 by Motherland Party, 223 by Civil Solidarity Party, 125 by Musavat, 76 by Democratic Azerbaijan World Party, 375 by Umid Party, 7 by Communist Party, 4 by Azerbaijan Patriots Party, 8 by Social Welfare Party, 1 by Social Democratic Party, 4 by Liberal Democratic Party, 22 by Modern Musavat Party, 72 by Democratic Reforms Party, 238 by United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, 385 by Great Establishment Party, 31 by Citizen Solidarity Party, 1 by Citizen and Development Party and 10 by National Democratic Party.
The election constituencies refused to register 3,215 candidates because of various reasons.
