National Broadcasting Council to assign Azerbaijani TV channels special task

“From legal aspect the National Broadcasting Council has no right to interfere the creative work of the TV channels. But the legislation lays responsibility on us to protect national, moral values, norms of standard language,” Chairman of the National Broadcasting Council Nushiravan Maharramli said.

The laws imply that the council can conduct detailed investigation and interfere with the activity of the TV channels when it is necessary, he said.

“We do not want to interfere. But if it keeps on like this, we will investigate activities  of some channels, radios and programs and take certain measures,” he said.

Maharramli said the council will assign the TV channels a special task to create a mechanism in the selection of presenters.

“We will review the forms of the competitions held by the TV channels to choose presenters,” he said.
