
A draft resolution on the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway
initiated by Azerbaijan was unanimously adopted during the meeting of
the UN General Assembly`s Economic and Financial Committee (Second
Committee), in New York.
On the proposal of the Azerbaijan`s
Ministry of ICT, the draft resolution was submitted for consideration
at the 64th session of UN General Assembly, press-service of
Azerbaijan`s Foreign Affairs Ministry said. Since September, the
Azerbaijani delegation has held succesful bilateral and multilateral
negotiations on the draft resolution.
A draft resolution stressed
a significant role of the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway in
bridging the “digital divide” in the Eurasia region.
Different
regions supported the draft resolution with a number of influential UN
member-countries joining the initiative as authors. They include US,
Germany, Australia, Bulgaria, Afghanistan, China, India, Georgia,
Switzerland, Israel, Iraq, Canada, Korea, Kuwait, Lithuania, Luxemburg,
Kazakhstan, Qatar, Moldova, Pakistan, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia,
Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Japan and others.
