Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan offers changes to Electoral Code

14 October 2009 [14:45] - TODAY.AZ
Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan (ACSDA) offered some changes in the Electoral Code.
The association has held a roundtable today.

Head of the election department of ACSDA Maharram Zulfugarli said the Council of Europe recommended some changes in the law, one of them is the promotion of election on government-financed TV channels.

“But in the previous elections this chance was given only to the Public Television. We offer to create this opportunity in AzTV, too,” he said.

Zulfugarli said the condition that the nominee for municipalities is to be registered in the territory of these municipalities should be eliminated.

Head of ELS Center for Independent Studies Irada Yagubova said she supports the proposals and does not support any restrictions on nomination.

Representatives of NGOs and lawyers also supported the proposals.
