“The fact is that Armenia and Armenian diaspora are at an impasse,” member of Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) Aydin Mirzazade said commenting on protests against Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan by the Armenian diaspora in the West prior to the possible signing of protocols on establishing of Armenian-Turkish relations.
“Disregard for international law, territorial claims to the neighbors were sooner or later lead to what Armenia faces now,” Mirzazade said.
"For thousands of years Armenians did not have their own state. In the end, in the early 20th century at a propitious moment they were able to create their own state on the territory of the historical Azerbaijani lands. But the leadership, authority and state power, claimed by the Armenians, are not compatible with aggression and aggressive policies they pursue,” the MP said.
"Armenian diaspora plays a great role in governing the country than the population itself. Nowhere in the world foreign nationals impact their nation-state as Armenian diaspora. Today the Armenian people are under the influence of pseudo-nationalist politicians with a medieval way of thinking. The Armenian state is in deep crisis,” Mirzazade said.
"There are two ways out of this crisis. One is to return to normal world-wide standards, that is to good neighborly relations, respect for territorial integrity, economic cooperation, regional integration in the global projects,” Mirzazade said.
"The second way is to continue the path that Armenia still holds. But today the population of Armenia is more tied to the first option. Because it lives experiencing these difficulties, and it feel results of thoughtless policy imposed on it by the Armenian nationalists,” he added.
"Armenian diaspora abroad live in affluent circumstances, has no social, domestic problems. It lives with illusion, but the current situation with the signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocols to open borders between the states revealed the severity of the contradictions that still exists in the Armenian environment,” Mirzazade said.
"I think that sooner or later the Armenian diaspora abroad, too, will understand this difficulty, since their actions, that is, ignoring international law, jeopardizes the very existence of the Armenian state. Besides, Armenian population wants to find a way out of the impasse rather to get more deeply drawn into this political quagmire,” he said.
"Even very radical politician such as Serzh Sargsyan today understands the need of serious change. Their future actions will show to what degree he is prepared for them and to what degree the Armenian people want to see their strong state in the international arena,” Mirzazade noted.
"But today's political, economic, social and moral crisis in the Armenian environment is the result of the reckless and dangerous acts committed by the Armenian diaspora. Thr future will show wether there will be new acts of terrorism and bloodshed on the background of today's political events,” he said.
