U.S. can do much, including to accelerate work of OSCE Minsk Group

28 September 2009 [15:41] - TODAY.AZ
U.S. can do much, including to accelerate work of OSCE Minsk Group,” Azerbaijani political expert Rasim Agayev said commenting on a statement by Turkish Prime Ministers Recep Tayyip Erdogan who said U.S. President Barack Obama had promised to accelerate work of the OSCE Minsk Group.
"I think that when Erdogan said that Obama has promised to accelerate work of the OSCE Minsk Group, the statement was not so much about the Minsk group, rather intensifying Washington's policy in this matter and that the U.S. can more closely deal with the Karabakh problem,” he said.

"For America, the solution of the Karabakh conflict and establishing stability in the South Caucasus is of great importance. So I think that the U.S. will influence peace building process. It's no secret that this process has slowed down a bit. And now, more priority is given to the Armenian-Turkish relations,” the political expert said.

"But the fact that Erdogan has expressed his views this way may be perceived as a braking process, in which Armenia has incompliance, and on position of which the United States may have an impact. However Yerevan resists, I think that Washington could have an impact on it, of course, if it wanted. I think that here the entire catch is in the effort to break up a common component - the Turkish and Karabakh, which Azerbaijan also opposes,” Agayev said.
