Turkish ambassador: Turkey willing to see no closed borders in region

10 September 2009 [09:37] - TODAY.AZ
‘Turkey-Armenia normalization will give an incentive to resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kilic said.
“Ankara wants to establish stability in the region.”

“No one can say that negotiations with Armenia will harm Azerbaijan. We believe that this process will also help resolve the conflict and free the occupied lands,” the diplomat said.

When asked whether Turkish-Armenian reconciliation will harm Azerbaijan’s interests the ambassador said “two days ago, President Abdullah Gul had said to Azerbaijani Ambassador to Ankara: “We will never make anything against Azerbaijan.”

Last week Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said “no process can not step over the Azerbaijani-Turkish friendship.”

“Let Azerbaijan trust Turkey. We want stability in the region and want to completely extinguish the fire. Peace in the region must deal with all.”

The ambassador also noted that Turkey does not wish to see closed borders in the region.

He said only in this way Caucasus can see development.

“Peace must be established in the Caucasus. Therefore we welcome all attempts to resolve conflicts. It is very dangerous to solve one problem ignoring the other,” he said.

The ambassador said that everyone should make an effort and cooperate to solve these problems.
