Armenian ex-PM criticizes country’s economic policy

05 August 2009 [15:59] - TODAY.AZ
Armenian government’s economic policy is failure, chairman of Unified Labor Party and former prime minister Gurgen Arsenyan said.
“The statements and appeals made by the head of the government in October-December 2008 and all economic vision is 180 degrees different from the reality that prevailed in January-March this year. That is, there are two options: either the head of the government knowing that what  expects the economic system of the country said totally different things that is misled his listeners or he was not aware of the situation. Both assessments for me are very negative,” he said.

He also recalled how he addressed the president during a meeting with representatives of various political forces in Armenia earlier this year, where they discussed the economic crisis.

“I will repeat what I said the president at that time: I do not trust objective of the government and its honesty.”

Moreover, Arsenyan also criticized government's anti-crisis program. “Government's anti-crisis program is smoke haze. This is not a way to deal with the crisis.”

Asked what way out of the situation he considers to be appropriate Arsenyan evaded a direct reply.

“The resignation of the government is not my problem. I present my views on the effectiveness of the government, its motives and integrity.”
