Turkey should demonstrate activity towards events in China: Turkish analyst

10 July 2009 [09:32] - TODAY.AZ
The Turkish Government does not demonstrate activity towards events in China unlike Gaza events, former MP from Saadet party, analyst Mehmet Bekaroglu said.

Ankara makes official statement, but it is inefficient to prevent the developments, Bekaroglu told Trend News in telephone conversation.

As a result of unrest in Urumqi city of administrative center of Xinjiang-Uygur autonomous region, 156 people died on July 6. Demonstrators burned cars, removed barriers of police and destroyed buses. According to last information of law enforcement agencies, 156 people died, 816 were wounded. It was reported that three civilians and one policeman died in clashes. People protesting in Urumqi expressed anxiety concerning death of two Uygurs during clashes between employees of toy factory in Guandun province that took place recently.

It is important to stop the violence against Uygurs, Turkish prime-minister Redgeb Tayyib Erdogan said while commenting on the conflict between China and Han Chinese. Protests took place in many provinces and cities of Turkey, while some non-governmental organizations call to boycott Chine's products.

Bekaroglu said the protests against the violation of Uygurs' rights in China will change the country's attitude to this question.

Turkey is a democratic country and the government will take into consideration any protest, Bekaroglu added.

He said it was public who influenced country's policy toward Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan.
