No ethnic incompatibility between Azerbaijanis, Armenians: Azerbaijani MP

07 July 2009 [16:36] - TODAY.AZ
A group of Azerbaijani and Armenian public figures, intellectuals and politicians tripped to Khankandi, Yerevan and Baku earlier last week.
Member of Azerbaijani delegation, deputy chairman of law and state-building committee and member of board of the Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh Rovshan Rzayev was also part of the delegation.

“Our goal was simply to lay foundations for peace in the public background following post-agreement period a time when the parties to the conflict will proceed with implementation after signing a peace agreement. It's quite complicated and thorny problem for both countries and we must begin to solve it now,” he said.

“The first thing that I noticed was that the Armenian population of the region still remains in captivity of stereotypes inherent in syndrome “sieged fortress”. But I have felt virtually no evidence of ethnic aggression, which is traditionally feature of this kind of conflict. And even we can not speak about ethnic incompatibility between the two peoples.”

“But we tried to extend range and diversity of debate. For example, I said that a complete and unilateral introduction of self-determination right to the Karabakh conflict will create a new problem as reflected in international law. However, even in this discussion, I do not feel aggressive anger,” he said.

“Without any intention to distort the picture, I would say that this city is the only settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh with developed infrastructure and signs of social and economic growth. The city is run by competent people,” he added.
