Washington. Zaur Hasanov – APA. “The energy deal signed during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Azerbaijan on June 29 is a signal to Turkey,” Ariel Cohen, Ph.D. Senior Research Fellow, Russian and Eurasian Studies and International Energy Security, Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for Foreign Policy Studies,The Heritage Foundation, told APA.

“So far in the competition between the Southern Stream which is the Russian dominated pipeline project and Nabucco, Russia is winning. Russia has an industry champion “Qazprom”. On the energy deal, it is a strong signal by President Aliyev and Azerbaijan that if Turkey continues to put all kind of demands, like one with lifting certain amount of gas in Turkey and which as I know has been resolved, it will be tough to find a deal for the Nabucco. It was a signal to Turkey. The amount is not big. If I am not mistaken it is 500 000 cubic metric of gas per year. Half of million of cubic metric gas isn’t much in this business. But it is a signal,” Ariel Cohen said.
