OSCE Chairperson-in-Office visiting Azerbaijan – UPDATED

OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis met with chairmen of parties in Azerbaijan. Chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Ali Karimli told APA that they had discussed Nagorno Karabakh conflict, state of human rights and democracy in Azerbaijan.
“We said that the work done within 17 years for the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict did not produce any results. We also noted that OSCE as an international organization failed to perform its mission concerning this issue. Moreover, we also exchanged views on the situation in the country, amendments to the electoral Code, irregularities in elections, political prisoners, arrest of journalists, restriction of freedom of assembly,” he said.

According to Ali Karimli, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office said she would discuss those issues with the country’s leadership, would call to maintain democracy in the country.

YAP deputy chairman, executive secretary Ali Ahmadov, Musavat chairman Isa Gambar, chairman of Umid Party Igbal Agazadeh, chairman of Azerbaijan Democratic Reforms Party Asim Mollazadeh, chairman of Public Forum for Azerbaijan Eldar Namazov also attended the meeting.

Azerbaijan is an important country for the stability of the entire Caucasus region, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis, who arrived in Baku, briefed the media on July 1.

The purpose of the visit is to further strengthen bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Greece. Ms. Bakoyannis said that today, the relations between Azerbaijan and Greece are very good. "I am here to be convinced of the progress of bilateral relations between the two countries," she said.

OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis has arrived in Azerbaijan for official visit, APA reports.

Dora Bakoyannis told journalists at Heydar Aliyev International Airport that she was visiting Azerbaijan in capacity of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Greek Foreign Minister. Ms. Bakoyannis said there were good relations between the two countries.
“One of the main targets of my visit is to strengthen the relations between the two countries. I will also visit Greek embassy in Baku. I think after my meetings in Baku we will become sure that the relations between the two countries are strengthening,” the minister said.

Dora Bakoyannis will meet with heads of parties and chairman of Public Union “Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno Karabakh”, head of Shusha region executive power Bayram Safarov today.

Tomorrow Dora Bakoyannis will meet with her Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov. President Ilham Aliyev will receive Ms. Bakoyannis. OSCE Chairperson-in-Office will leave Baku for Yerevan.
