"Any contact of the supreme leadership of Azerbaijan and Russia - Ilham Aliyev and Dmitri Medvedev, is somehow connected with the issue of Nagorno Karabakh issue", said MP, member of the Azerbaijani-Russian interparliamentary group of friendship Mikhail Zabelin, commenting on the visit of Russian president Dmitri Medvedev to Azerbaijan.
"Resolution of the Karabakh conflict is the most important topic for Azerbaijan. The talks between the two presidents, related to the conflict issue, are a new push to its settlement", said he.
"Though, I think much is left to the final resolution of the Karabakh conflict, but I think sooner or later this conflict will be settled in favor of Azerbaijan", said Zabelin.
"As for the signing of the gas contract, I think I.Aliyev takes substantiated steps and will never cause damage to his country. Russia is a strategic partner of Azerbaijan, our political neighbor and I think this contract was an important step in expansion of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia in the enegry sector", noted the deputy.
"As for the issue of Gabala radar station, it is at the stage of negotiations, but if the joint use of the radar station promotes strengthening peace and security in the region and in Europe, I think Azerbaijan will also take these steps", said he.
"I think if Azerbaijan is in the center of attention both as an energy state and in connection with fight with terrorism, it is becoming a central republic not only in the South Caucasus region, but also in the world. Two superstates pay attention to Azerbaijan and this is important", concluded Zabelin.
