12 June 2009 [09:38] - TODAY.AZ
For the first time in the history Israel's president arrives in Azerbaijan and his visit can be regarded as historical, said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Azerbaijan Artur Lenk.
According to him, the forthcoming negotiations envision discussion of the entire range of problems that may interest the two friendly nations, a wide range of issues that of concern in Israel and Azerbaijan.

He said the visit is schedule for the last week of July.

As for the documents, to be signed during the visit, he said the documents will be signed but their signing is not a target.

"Most important is the existence of friendly and partner relations between Azerbaijan and Israel and we want to deepen them. Both Azerbaijanis and Israelis want  more dialogue and more partnership and this is what we are going to do.

Speaking of the possible appearance of the Azerbaijani embassy to Israel, he said this firstly depends on the Azerbaijani side.

"As for Israel we say "welcome". We would be really very happy at the appearance of the Azerbaijani embassy to Israel. But this issue should be settled by Azerbaijan in line with its interests.

Anyway, the fact that the relations between our countries are on a good level. Azerbaijani public shares opinion and these relations meet the interest of the country. In turn, we announce that this is good for Israel as well, therefore, we would be glad if the embassy opens", noted the ambassador.

Asked about the reaction of Tehran to Perez's visit to Baku, Lenk stressed that the statements of the representatives of Azerbaijani officials speak for themselves.

"Most officials of the country have stated that this visit has nothing to do with the third countries and is related only to the cooperation of Azerbaijan and Israel. The visit will take place and everyone can have his own opinion, including negative, about this issue. But the most important is that Azerbaijan and Israel are convinced of the usefulness of this visit to both parties", concluded Lenk.
