Presidential administration official: Azerbaijan’s steps are not against Iran

09 June 2009 [09:17] - TODAY.AZ
“We are pursuing an independent foreign policy and this policy serves the national interests of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan’s President is successfully pursuing this policy and there is no need to worry about it,” chief of international affairs department of the President’s Administration Novruz Mammadov told APA. Commenting on Israeli President Shimon Peres’ scheduled visit to Azerbaijan and statements made in Iran, Mammadov said Azerbaijan’s steps are not against a third state.
“If the visit takes place, Azerbaijan and Israel will exchange views on some points of the bilateral relations. Iran’s foreign policy officials have not said anything about it, we think that they understand it. We never take steps contradicting Iran’s interests. Despite this, some states both in the West and other places take steps contradicting the interests of Azerbaijan,” he said.

Novruz Mammadov said the person, who expressed his view on Shimon Peres’ visit to Azerbaijan, was head of the security agency.
“Security agency has no right to interfere in the policy in any country,” he said.
