US assistant secretary of state to visit Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia - UPDATED

Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Philip Gordon is expected to visit Azerbaijan on June 10, U.S. embassy Public Relations Office Head Terry Davidson told Trend News. 

"We expect that assistant secretary Philip Gordon will come to Azerbaijan on June 10. We are trying to confirm the exact schedule," Davidson said.

The trip will be short, he said.

As a part of regional visit, Gordon will trip to Armenia on June 9 and then to Georgia following Azerbaijan.

Assistant US secretary of state on Europe and Eurasia Philip Gordon will visit Armenia in terms of a regional visit on June 9, said press service for the US embassy to Armenia.

"The aim of the visit is to discuss issues of regional and bilateral concern. During the visit Dr.Gordon will meet with officials and public representatives, as well as other persons", the message states.

After visiting Armenia, Gordon will also arrive in Georgia and Azerbaijan.

This is Gordon's first visit to the region in his new post that he assumed on May 15. Previously he served as research fellow for foreign policy of U.S. and Europe in Brookings University in Washington. Earlier he was responsible for European affairs at the U.S. National Security Council.
