Azerbaijani parliament received a draft law on lifting the restriction imposed on the election of Prosecutor General more than twice, the parliament told APA.
Document on amendments to the law on “Prosecutor’s office” will be discussed in the parliament’s committee for legal policy and statehood in a few days. The draft sent to the committee by one of the parliamentarians offers to remove the sentence “One and the same person can not be appointed Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Republic, Military Prosecutor of Azerbaijan Republic, Prosecutor of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic more than twice” from the 2nd part of Article 16 of the law on “Prosecutor’s office”.
The document will be considered during the extraordinary session of the parliament, this month.

According to the law on “Prosecutor’s office”, restriction was imposed on election of Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General, Military Prosecutor and Prosecutor of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. One and the same person can be elected to these posts only twice for five-year term.

Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov was appointed to the post on April 25, 2000, his tenure will expire on April 25 next year.

Military Prosecutor Khanlar Valiyev was appointed to the post on February 10, 2005.

Prosecutor of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is Shahverdiyev Sabuhi Zehmet.
