Azerbaijan demonstrated its priorities in 1999 when it refused to prolong an agreement with CSTO: military expert

Azerbaijan would benefit more from membership in NATO than in CSTO, said famous military expert Uzeir Cafarov.
He believes that Azerbaijan demonstrated its priorities in 1999 when it refused to prolong an agreement with CSTO.

"At the same time, I would like to remind that the cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan started in 1992 with Azerbaijan's joining the North Atlantic Partner Alliance (which has been called the Euro-Atlantic partner alliance since 1997)", added the military expert.

According to him, the relations started developing after Azerbaijan joined the program "For peace" in 1994.

"Along with support to holding reforms, one of the main objectives of NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation is the development of the capacities of the armed forces of the country during the quick response and peacekeeping operations. The main benefit of Azerbaijan's membership in NATO will be the national security, provided by the alliance to all its members", concluded Cafarov.
