Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has today visited the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan.
“Rapid development in Azerbaijan, progressed achieved in the country is the result of the successful policy carried out in Azerbaijan,” said the visiting President of Georgia.
President Saakashvili first viewed the assembly hall and praised conditions created here for parliamentarians.
Georgian President viewed the Heydar Aliyev Commemoration hall. Saakashvili got familiar with the photographs of national leader Heydar Aliyev and important documents adopted while Heydar Aliyev was a speaker of parliament.
President Mikheil Saakashvili signed the guest book.
Later, Georgian Leader met with Milli Majlis speaker Ogtay Asadov.
Ogtay Asadov said Azerbaijan-Georgia historical ties are developing and strengthening. After the two countries regained their independence, bilateral relations marked a new era of development. According to Asadov, reciprocal visits of the Heads of States, meetings held contributed to cooperation.
MM speaker stressed regional projects help improve welfare of both peoples. Asadov highlighted the importance of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipeline and Baku-Akhalkalaki-Kars railway projects.
He stressed the present and scheduled visits would strengthen bilateral relations even more.
Georgian President Saakashvili noted Azerbaijan and Georgia have friendly and brotherly relations. Azerbaijan extended its helping hand to Georgia during country`s hard days.
Mikheil Saakashvili noted development in Baku is a result of right and successful policy pursued in the country. He emphasized there is good potential for developing cooperation between the two countries. President of Georgia wished every success to the Azerbaijani parliament.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, in his temporary residence here, received Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade.
The Georgian leader expressed satisfaction with the talks he held during his Baku visit.
He noted an agreement was achieved during the trip on cooperation in oil, gas and energy, as well as building gas storehouses in Georgia.
Mr. Saakashvili added the storehouses to be built in Georgia will ensure gas supply to his country.
President Mikheil Saakashvili thanked Azerbaijan for not allowing interruption of gas supply to Georgia during wintertime.
“Azerbaijan is the best friend of Georgia”, said Mr. Saakashvili.
Prime Minister Artur Rasizade said effective relations between the two countries` various structures provide opportunity to solve emerging issues.
The Premier praised the level of economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Projects jointly implemented by Georgia and Azerbaijan are of great significance for the region and have a positive impact on international relations in a large sense, AzerTaj state news agency quoted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev as saying at a joint news conference with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

"Georgia and Azerbaijan have always paid great attention to energy security in the region. Thanks to our joint efforts. A completely new situation has appeared in the region. Of course, it's important not to be satisfied with progress and to implement more important and larger projects together in the future," Ilham Aliyev said. "Today we also discussed European energy security. Recently, we participated in the event related to the South Corridor together with you and our position is unequivocal. We protect our interests and at the same time we fruitfully cooperate in the energy sector with all partners."

The Azerbaijani President said the transport cooperation is also continuing successfully. "The construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railways is going on successfully. Currently, we also had broad exchange of views on further realization of this project and gave respective instructions," the president said.

The Azerbaijani president said that Azerbaijan and Georgia have traditionally defended and supported each other in international organizations. Aliyev expressed his confidence that this mutual support will further continue. The Georgia-Azerbaijan relations are of great importance in the region, he said

"The development of friendly and brotherly ties is important for our peoples and nations. It is of great importance also for ensuring peace and stability in the region. I expressed my opinion on the core of our negotiations. I believe that these negotiations and further joint efforts will bring our countries even closer," President Aliyev sa

Azerbaijan and Georgia have signed here documents in the presence of Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Mikheil Saakashvili.
President of the “Azerbaijan Airlines” Company, AZAL, Jahangir Asgarov and Georgian Economic Development Minister Lasha Zhvania signed a Protocol of amendment to the agreement on air communication between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Georgia; Azerbaijani and Georgian Ministers of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev and Lasha Zhvania signed a Protocol of amendment to the agreement on free trade between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia dated 1996;
Chairman of Azerbaijan State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patent Ramiz Hasanov and Georgian Economic Development Minister Lasha Zhvania signed an agreement on cooperation on protection of the intellectual property between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia.

"I would like to emphasize the dynamic cooperation between our countries based on good plans and their implementation," said the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili at the extensive meeting of the Azerbaijani-Georgian inter-governmental commission in Baku on May 20, AzTV channel reported.

"Ilham Aliyev and members of his team not only promise, but also fulfill their promises," added the President of Georgia.

He said that Azerbaijan and Georgia create an informal confederation.

"There are no issues that would not unite our countries and we could not resolve quickly. Most of the plans set out several years ago has already been realized," said Saakashvili.

President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili was given an official welcome in Azerbaijan.
A guard of honor was lined up at the square decorated with the national flags of Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The Georgian leader was warmly welcomed by President Ilham Aliyev.
The two Presidents inspected a ceremonial Guard of Honor as a military orchestra played the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Azerbaijani officials were introduced to President Mikheil Saakashvili, while members of the Georgian delegation to President Ilham Aliyev.

The presidents then posed for photographs.

Azerbaijani First Vice Prime Mister Yagub Eyubov and other state officials of Azerbaijan welcomed the Georgian President at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport.

A protocol meeting took place between the Georgian President and the Azerbaijani First Vice Prime Minister.

The Georgian delegation involves Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze, Economy Development Minister Lasha Zhvania, Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri and other officials.

During the visit to Baku, Saakashvili will meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade and Speaker Oktai Asadov.

The objective of Georgian President's visit is to deep bilateral relations and review a wide range of issues, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported.
