It is impossible to achieve sustainable peace in the region without resolving Nagorno Karabakh conflict: presidential administration's representative

“It is impossible to achieve sustainable peace in the South Caucasus without resolving the Nagorno Karabakh conflict," the chairman of the Public Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov told CNN Turk. He further stressed that opening of the borders between Turkey and Armenia without achieving the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict could create problems in Azerbaijani-Turkish relations. “We recognize Armenians` right to live in Nagorno Karabakh. However, we can not accept the separation and creation of separatist state in the region. Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity must be ensured and the declarations adopted earlier by the United Nations must be fulfilled.” Hasanov noted.   

He also noted that the only way to achieving permanent peace in the region passed through the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. ”We don’t oppose opening of the borders. However, it should not be carried out without setting any pre-conditions.” Hasanov further said that Azerbaijan had right to comment on the issue and that President Aliyev`s refusal to attend the Alliance of Civilizations summit in Istanbul was connected with it.
