17 April 2009 [10:36] - TODAY.AZ
A conference dedicated to 15 years of Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation will take place in Baku early May, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy Jean-Francois Bureau told APA.
Civil and military officers of the NATO Headquarters expected to attend the conference. “Azerbaijan made an important step toward integration into the Euro-Atlantic space by joining the Partnership for Peace Program in May, 1994. Baku is supporting the NATO peacekeeping operations and reforming its armed forces in accordance with NATO standards”, said Bureau.

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and NATO European Commander are also expected to join the conference.

Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry told APA the date of conference is specified now. The ministry didn’t give information about the participants of the conference.

Scheffer will hand over the NATO Secretary General’s mandate to newly-elected Anders Fogh Rasmussen in August, 2009. Rasmussen was elected to the post of the NATO Secretary General in the NATO Summit on April 3-4 in Strasbourg, France and Kehl, Germany.
