If no progress between Azerbaijan and Armenia is attained, Turkey will not gain much from opening borders: Deputy FM

09 April 2009 [14:00] - TODAY.AZ
There are many ways, roads and routes, connecting Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan, said deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov.
"Unfortunately, these roads today pass the occupied lands and certainly no one can doubt that unless the Armenian side continue occupation of the Azerbaijani side, there will not be any cooperation between Baku and Yerevan", noted he.

At the same time he said the opening of the Turkish-Azerbaijani border is possible in the context of the resolution of the Karabakh conflict.

"If the opening of the Turkish-Armenian border is discussed, this issue can be placed in frames of the negotiation process on the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict and discuss possible phased opening of the border. In the future, it will be possible to come to a formula on which it would be possible to hold the phased opening of roads, connecting Turkey and Armenia in the process of development of situation on the phased liberation of Azerbaijani lands from occupation", said the deputy minister.

"Thus, Ankara will not gain much from the opening of borders with Yerevan, if no achievements are attained between Azerbaijan and Armenia as these three states are interconnected and this should be taken into account", noted the deputy foreign minister.
