We welcome meetings of presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan on resolution of Karabakh conflict: German Foreign Ministry

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan yesterday received state secretary of the German Foreign Ministry Gernot Erler and chairman of the group of friendship Germany-South Caucasus of Bundestag Steffen Reiche, as well as German ambassador to Armenia Andrea Viktorin.
The President of Armenia stressed that it is extremely important to further develop bilateral and multilateral relations with one of the leading countries of Europe-Germany. Thanking for assistance provided to Armenia following independence Serzh Sargsyan noted that Germany is a second donor state for Armenia and the biggest trade and economic partner.

According to Gernot Erler, his visit to Armenia proves great interest Germany pays to developments in the South Caucasus region and in particular after the August events of the last year. Calling the military way to be an inadmissible solution, the state secretary of the German Foreign Ministry noted that he is against any application of force and violence.

The sides spoke in details about the current stage of the negotiation process on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict as well as chances to settle the Armenian-Turkish relations.

The state secretary for the Foreign Ministry of Germany said that they welcome the meetings of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the resolution of the Karabakh issue, as well as a political dialogue, launched between Armenia and Turkey.

The sides also touched upon the EU initiative of Eastern Partnership. President Sargsyan noted that this initiative opens new opportunities of interaction that the Armenian side intends to use maximally.
