02 March 2009 [17:44] - TODAY.AZ
On March 2, the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission decided to provide 500 polling stations with Web cams in referendum vote, according to Trend News.
There are 5,000 polling stations in Azerbaijan. About 10 percent of polling stations will be provided with Web cams.

Web cams aim to ensure transparency in the vote, CEC secretary Natig Mammadov said.

CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov said Web cams will be installed at the same polling stations where they were installed for the presidential vote. "The Web cams will cover polling stations across the country. They will allow to watch the whole process of voting. The Web cams will be installed by the Communication and Information Technology Ministry," he said.

Azerbaijani referendum groups launched campaigning on Feb. 18. The campaign will end by 00:00 on March 16.

The free airtime is allotted on the Public Television at 18:15 - 19:45 and on Saturdays and at 20:15 - 21:34 on Wednesdays.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend 29 Articles of the Constitution.
The Central Election Commission has registered the New Azerbaijan, City, Progress, Law and Democracy and Civil Society initiative groups. The Prosperous Village, Free Speech, Azerbaijan People's Republic and National Independence initiative groups were denied registration.
The Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.
