"Some bodies in Azerbaijan give mined areas to the citizens for sowing, and it results in mine accidents in those areas," Director General of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) Nazim Ismayilov told APA.
Ismayilov said that it was mainly recorded in Harami plain. The people sowing the banned areas became the victims of mine blasts.
"We have several times appealed to the law-enforcement bodies, but in vain," he said.
Nazim Ismayilov said the number of mine victims reduced year after year. 28-30 people suffered from mine blasts in 2002-2003, while this figure was 4 in 2008.
"90 percent of those who struck mine were servicemen," he said.
ANAMA was established in 1999. Since 2000 the agency is clearing the settlements liberated from the occupation of Armenian Armed Forces and the territories of blasted military bases of former Soviet army.
