PACE monitoring committee to discuss referendum on amendments to Azerbaijani Constitution

The Monitoring committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will discuss the situation in Azerbaijan, sources in the Azerbaijani parliament report, according to Interfax-Azerbaijan.

"Today the PACE monitoring committee will discuss the situation in the mass media of the country, as well as the referendum to be held on March 18 of this year on amendments to the Constitution of the country", said sources in the department of international ties of Milli Medjlis on Thursday.

The hearings are expected to b attended by co-rapporteurs of the PACE monitoring committee on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel (Estonia) and Eugenia Zhivkova (Bulgaria).

"The session of the PACE monitoring committee might settle the issue of the next visit of the co-rapporteurs to Azerbaijan. The visit is expected to be held before the referendum", sources stated.

Azerbaijan joined the Council of Europe on January 25 of 2001.
