Frederick Starr: "The United States must support Azerbaijan not less than Georgian and in some cases even more"

29 January 2009 [10:58] - TODAY.AZ
"Through the past 15 years the White House administration has been attentive to the problems of the threat to the national security of Azerbaijan and Turkey", said Frederick Starr, head of the Central Asian and Caucasus Institute under the Washington University after John Hopkins speaking at the Washington conference "US policy in the South Caucasus: energy and geopolitics".

He said the joint implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzirum projects with this country is an obvious example of this policy. Starr noted that the US position on Azerbaijan, which is on the strategic road to Afghanistan, was incorrect in the sense of adoption of amendment 907 to "Act on support of freedom".

"In this connection the United states must support Azerbaijan not less than Georgia and in some cases even more", announced he.
