Umid party: "The police creates obstacles in collecting signatures for establishment of the agitation group on referendum"

The Umid party faces obstacles while collecting signatures to establish an agitation group due to holding a referendum on introduction of amendments to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, said deputy chairman of the party Anver Aghazade.

He said the party faces greatest obstacles in Gazakh, Aghstafa, Lenkoran and Aghsu regions of Azerbaijan.

"In particular, the police hindered the signature collection. The chairmen of different regional organizations also announce that some activists were detained while collecting signatures. Currently we are investigating these facts and specifying names of the detained.

The Umid party is represented in the civil movement "For Karabakh and Republic". The Parties, represented in the civil movement agreed that they need to collect 15,000 signatures.

Despite police's interference to the signature collection, the Umid Party takes all efforts for the soonest resolution of this stage and present signatures to the Central Electoral Commission for registering the agitation group", noted Aghazade.

Notably, the referendum on introduction of amendments to the Constitution is planned to be held on March 18.

Notably, the initiator of the creation of the civil movement was Azadlyg bloc, comprising three parties - Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Liberal Democratic Party, Civil Development Party, as well as the public forum "For Azerbaijan". The Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, Umid party and Musavat as well as a number of NGOs also joined the initiative.
